Collection: Surfacing Veils and Fabrics
Surfacing veil is a thin, lightweight layer of fiberglass or other high-strength non-woven fiber material that is used as a surface layer in composite materials. Surfacing veils strengthen the resin-rich surface of composite parts, creating a strong bond with the underlying laminate and enhancing surface appearance by masking the reinforcing fiber pattern. This reduction in pattern print-through allows for the highest quality surface to last over time.
Surfacing veil is typically used in the construction of sandwich panels, where it is laminated to the top and bottom skins of the panel to provide a smooth, continuous surface finish. The surfacing veil helps protect the core material from damage and provides a cosmetic finish that can be painted or polished to achieve a desired appearance. In addition to its protective and cosmetic functions, the surfacing veil increases the overall stiffness and strength of the composite panel by providing a load-carrying capacity to the skin layers.
Surfacing veils are commonly used to ensure an optical smooth surface in pipes and tanks, wind turbine blades, aerospace and industrial applications. They are also used in the production of surfboards, snowboards, and in many marine applications.
